H-1B Season has Begun: It may be a very short season.

April 1, 2014:  Today is the first day for employers to file an H-1B petition for a temporary professional position with a start date of October 1, 2014.  Predictions are that the H-1B Cap (65,000 plus an additional 20,000 for those with a master’s degree from a US institution) will be reached either on the first day of filing, or shortly thereafter.  USCIS has said that it will accept H-1B petitions filed from April 1, 2014 to April 7, 2014.  If the cap is reached, they will use a lottery to chose those petitions that will be accepted for filing. USCIS also announced that it will begin processing petitions that are selected, and that requested premium processing, no later than April 28, 2014.  If  a petition is not selected, it will be returned to the employer  along with the filing fee checks. We will post updates on processing information as we receive them.
